Bowie

Gutted to hear of David Bowie’s passing today. Truly one of the 20th Century’s great artists.

I bought Blackstar on Friday, the day it was released. I’m so glad I got to hear it as the fresh new album from a living artist because now it will always seem like his goodbye; as uncompromising and surprising as his grandest entrances.

It’s amazing to see everyone sharing their favourite Bowie moments today. Pretty much every record he ever made seems to be represented in someone’s heart. For me though it’s the three albums known as the Berlin Trilogy – in particular Low – that I always go back to. I painted this a few years ago, based on the track Warszawa. I hope it captured something of the track’s atmosphere.
