Was down at the Tate earlier on this week and was privileged to see Edward Burne-JonesLast Sleep of Arthur in Avalon, on loan from somewhere in Puerto Rico.

What was most fascinating of all for me was that they’d devoted an entire room to this massive canvas and filled the rest with incredibly academic and scientific research sketches and studies. Not the way I’d ever imagine working, but a real insight into how the piece was conceived. If you’re in London before the end of next March I heartily recommend seeing this lesser known Pre-Raphaelite gem. Given its creator and subject matter it’s amazing that it’s apparently never been exhibited in the UK before!

They also have Frederic Leighton’s slightly more famous Flaming June on loan from the same source (the gallery’s getting refurbished or something) which is incredibly rich and sensuous in the flesh.
