Songs Twenty-six to Twenty-eight : Sibelius : Symphony No.3

I wanted to try something a bit more ambitious for the big finish, so I worked on these three together. I’ve tried to capture to flow of the music – Sibelius’ symphonies flow together more than any other composer I know – in fact by the seventh he’d abandoned the movement altogether. This one also has a lovely structure with a central melody that slowly emerges in the first, dominates the second and is consumed by the third, and I thought that would link the three pieces together (it’s the yellow bit).

song 26 - sibelius 3 - 1st movement1: Allegro moderato (in C major)

song 27 - sibelius 3 - 2nd movement 2 : Andantino con moto, quasi allegretto (in G-sharp minor)

song 28 - sibelius 3 - 3rd movement3: Moderato – Allegro ma non tanto (in C major)

song 28 - sibelius 3 - set

All three movements together

28 Songs Later : the final three

Those of you who have been watching the 28 Songs Later project unfold (thanks – the response has been great, especially over on Facebook!) may notice a pause for the next couple of days. This is because I have A Plan for the final three pieces, which may or may not work out… If it does, hopefully you’ll see why on the 28th. If it doesn’t, well at least we gave it a chance…

Song Twenty-five : The Wound (Marillion)

Song Twenty-five : The Wound (Marillion)

“And the fern is beautiful in it’s own way
Uncurling in the dark
Beautiful with no one there to see it
As the wound weeps and aches “
song 25 - the wound

Sort of a request, but one I’d probably do anyway.

Song Twenty-three : Aerodynamic (Daft Punk)

Decided to put black gesso on a couple of boards, see how that turned out. I think this one worked OK.

Another request this one.

Song Twenty-one : Violet Hill (Coldplay)

Song Twenty-one : Violet Hill (Coldplay)

A request. This one wasn’t massively successful. There were a lot of water effects which didn’t dry terribly well unfortunately – it looked better wet. Also I promised I wouldn’t use purple and failed 😉

Song Nineteen : Rajaz (Camel)

Song Nineteen : Rajaz (Camel)
The first one with distinct lyrical content. The song is about camel trains (rajaz being the word for the songs the riders would sing to the rhythm of their beasts’ footsteps) and there’s lots about long arduous journeys and the “stars in heaven” being departed souls implying that those who don’t make it help the rest on their way across the desert. Got a bit lost in this one and might have overworked it as a result, but hey, it’s better to stay in the zone when you can 🙂

Song Eighteen : Within Without You (The Beatles)

Song Eighteen : Within Without You (The Beatles)

This one got a bit lost and went meh. But the thing with 28 Drawings Later is that you post it anyway, so people get to see the off days.
