My fine art ranges in style from classical figurative and portrait work to landscapes and contemporary abstract work. In a landscape, my main concern is capturing the atmosphere of the moment in time; the unique way the air moves and mixes. This approach is extended in my abstract work where my primary focus is the battlelines where colours meet; be they subtly blended or aggressively juxtaposed. I am also very influenced my music, where I try to convey mood, pace and theme through colour and texture choices. I like to use unconventional tools such as cloth, paper, knives and sprays to both apply and remove paint on a canvas which gives the image a heavily worked, distressed look which would be difficult to achieve with a conventional brush alone. I also employ a very wet approach to acrylics more typically used with watercolour which allows the painting to evolve on the canvas. As such my works are often over-painted many times, each image the ghost of a previous life underpinning the final work.
